The songs chosen are all sentimental love songs from the 40's and 5O's and most have a western flavor. Although Tammy has just recently been introduced to this style of music, I'm sure you'll agree that here she demonstrates her versatility with a beautiful and heartfelt performance. We had the pleasure of working with two other fine musicians on this project, Jerry Compton, an excellent steel guitar player, and Richard Chon, a superb violinist. Their contribution is greatly appreciated. We sincerely hope you enjoy this ride down the Trail of Memories. I dedicate this album to the memory of Nora Jean.
SONG OF THE SIERRA - Recorded by Jimmy Wakely and the Three Rays in the 50's, written by Jimmy Wakely. WALTZING ON TOP OF THE WORLD - This one was recorded by Jim Reeves and written by Al Courtney and Jim Reeves. It's one of the two recordings in waltz tempo on this album. COULD I BE FALLING IN LOVE - Also recorded by Jim Reeves and written by Alex Zanetis. A beautiful marriage of lyrics and melody. SUNDOWN ON THE PRAIRIE - This song was written by Tilzer and McPherson and recorded by Tex Ritter. The Hays Co. Gals made a great recording of this one in the 90's. CHAPEL IN THE MOONLIGHT - A beautiful song that has been recorded by many artists over the years. Written by Billy Hill. SOMEWHERE ON THE PAINTED DESERT - Recorded by Gordon Jenkins in the 50's, this is a haunting piece of music filled with the mystery one might find in the Navajo Indian country of Northern Arizona. Written by Jimmy Kennedy and Nat Simon. GOTTA GET ME SOMEBODY TO LOVE - This tune is a great piece from the 50's. It's simple in construction and has that feeling of lonesomeness that's found in the openness of the west. Written by Allie Wrubel and recorded by Bing Crosby and Stuart Foster in the 40's. TRAIL OF MEMORIES - This song tells of the feelings of a wandering cowboy on a lonely western trail with only his horse and his memories of home. My thanks to Ken Griffis for suggesting this as the title song. Written by Billy Fairmann and Ken Nelson. WARM AGAIN - These lyrics came from a poem penned by Bob Nolan which was found after his death in 1980. Bob's daughter, Robeda, sent it to me and asked that I write music to the words, which I did. As I was with The Wonder of it All, I am honored to have my name beside Bob's as co-writer. LET ME SHARE YOUR NAME - Another wonderful composition by the "Stephen Foster of the West", Bob Nolan, and recorded by the world famous Sons of the Pioneers. It demonstrates the sentimental side of this great composer of such western classics as Tumbling Tumbleweeds and Cool Water, to mention but two. SUNRISE OVER TAXCO - This song was recorded by Tommy Dorsey with the vocat by Frank Sinatra. The great melody line and catchy lyrics were written by Elliot Pardue and the recording was released in 1940. Many thanks to my good friend and music aficionado, Nick Nicholas for bringing it to my attention. NEVADA - This is a terrific song written by Donaldson and Greene and recorded by Tommy Dorsey with vocal by Stuart Foster.
